1880 Seated Liberty Half Dollar – PCGS Proof 64 Cameo – CAC
I have always liked these late date, small mintage Seated Liberty halves, and this one is no exception. The 1880 half has a mintage in proof of only 1,355 coins, while the mint state of the same year only had a production run of 8,400 coins, so all together there were well under 10K coins struck. This specimen is graded by PCGS as PR64CAM (the CAM designates Cameo), about a third of the coins struck carry the cameo description, basically meaning an early strike. Also CAC gave it their “green bean” of approval. The look and color of the coin is slightly steel-grey but still light in color, slightly more toned around the denticles and rim but still very even in color.
