1861 $10 Gold Liberty Head Eagle – PCGS MS 61 – Variety 1
A civil war year gold eagle struck in Philadelphia in 1861 and graded by PCGS as MS61. These “No Motto” eagles are tough to find in mint state and the war-time years are even harder to find. PCGS has grade a total of 479 1861 eagles, with 23 in MS61 and only 16 finer. This example has soft, even luster with lots of little marks, but no large distracting blemishes. A real bargain that is priced a touch back of bid.
