1900-O/CC Morgan Silver Dollar – PCGS MS 64
After the Carson City mint shut down in 1893 they shipped their excess dies to New Orleans where they were stored for possible future use. In 1900 they pulled the old dies off the shelf and added the “O” mint mark on the reverse die and put the dies into production and produced thousands and thousands of coins from numerous sets of dies while either not noticing or not caring that there was the remnants of a “CC” visible under the “O”. This coin has the stronger of the over-mint mark reverses. There are several varieties with some more obvious and noticeable than others and the stronger the better. This coin is certified MS64 by PCGS and is quite attractive, well struck with light edge toning but just a few too many makes to grade higher.
