1897-O Morgan Silver Dollar – PCGS MS 63 – CAC
Even though the 1897-O has a mintage of 4,004,000 coins, the survival rate in uncirculated is extremely small. The total number of coins graded by PCGS (in all grades) is a little over 7,000 coins, in MS63 they have only certified 303 coins with 52 finer. Compare that to the 1898-O dollar (4,440,000 mintage) where PCGS has graded over 71,000 coins total and over 65,000 coins graded in MS63 or higher!
This coin is a bright white and creamy lusterous example with a pretty good strike, just a few too many marks to grade any higher. The most noticeable mark is a reed mark on the neck, but it’s not very distracting and it is somewhat hidden. CAC gave this coin it’s “green bean” of approval for it’s overall attractiveness for the grade.
